Flowers, sun and other happy things

Spring is just around the corner – can you feel it?  It’s still disturbingly cold today in Portland; my car dashboard read 37 degrees. That said, we awoke to blue skies and a happy sun and I take what I can get around here parts.
On that note, don’t forget that this weekend marks daylight savings time, which means we lose an hour of sleep but gain extra sunlight. Spring forward!
This time of year is also one of my favorite times of year because flowers start to crop up. The Oregon rain usually crushes them before they can revel in all their glory but the sight of color popping up from the ground is still a nice one, no matter how short.
Throughout spring and summer I like to keep fresh stems of tulips in my house. They make me happy to look at. Unlike other flowers, they won’t empty your wallet and last for quite a while.
I am not sponsored for this post but I wanted to share another killer flower deal from Whole Foods. All Whole Foods Market store locations on Friday, March 8, 2013 and will feature three 10-stem bunches of tulips for $10. Amazing.
Don’t need all 30? You can give some to your favorite girlfriends or place them around your home.

Some fun ideas & tips for your pretty bouquet:
  • March 8 is International Women's Day. Show appreciation to hardworking women with a bouquet.
  • Reward spring cleaning by placing tulips all over the house, rather than just the table. Some experts even recommend placing old pennies in the bottom of a vase of tulips to help the stems stand tall.
  • With three bunches to work with, you could brighten someone else's day, such as thoughtful neighbors or helpful coworkers, by spreading the love with your extra bunches of tulips.
  • Want to make your tulips last longer? Try placing the arrangement in a cool spot, away from bright light or direct heat.
